Robert Phelan is a thirty-eight year veteran of the insurance industry. Having worked for major brokerage firms throughout New England, Bob is currently CEO of TriPoint (fka Litchfield Insurance Group).
Bob and his team have been leaders in delivering client solutions with various Performance Based InsuranceTM solutions since 1977. In 1996, his company put the first client into the group captive called Affinity that has now become the largest group captive in the world. Most recently, Bob created a Delaware based Series LLC captive for a regional nursing home chain with 8,000 employees and 42 locations throughout New England.
In January ’05, after conducting a nationwide search, The National Alliance Research Academy recognized Mr. Phelan as one of “The 25 Most Innovative Agents in America”. The profiles of all 25 were published in March ’05 in a book by the same name.
Bob published his first book in April ‘09, Broke – The Broken Contractor’s Insurance System and How to Fix It In January of ’13, Bob published his second book, The Cost of Ignorance – What you don’t know about Performance Based Insurance Can Save You Millions.
Risk & Insurance Magazine, the largest national trade journal dedicated to the risk management profession, recognized Bob for the third time in January 2014 as a “Power Broker” in the Workers Compensation category. He was recognized in the same category in 2012 and for Construction in 2008. He is the only three-time winner and the only broker to be acknowledged in two categories. There are 24 categories by industry and this prestigious honor is conferred upon 144 brokers annually out of approximately 30,000 licensed U.S. professionals.
Bob has a BA from Tufts University and holds the professional designation, Associate in Risk Management (ARM). Mr. Phelan is presently enrolled in the Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI) program sponsored by the International Center for Captive Insurance Education (ICCIE). He will complete the program and attain the designation in late 2015.
